American Culture Club of Sibiu

The American Culture Club of Sibiu is an extracurricular club based on the campus of Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu. The club sponsors American cultural events and discussion of current social issues, in addition to providing an English speaking environment for various social and cultural gatherings. Moreover, the club creates opportunities to gain experience planning events and organizing discussions for the students of LBUS.

Oh Captain! My Captain!

Thursday evening students had the opportunity to learn more about several famous American writers. Cosmina presented on Walt Whitman, William Faulkner, Edgar Allen Poe and Mark Twain. She led a discussion on several poems, including “On the Beach At Night” by Whitman and “The Happiest Day” by Poe. Students also watched a short clip from the American film Dead Poets Society, during which John Keating (played by Robin Williams) recites the poem “O me! O life!” by Walt Whitman. A short discussion on the poem ensued and the evening ended with students talking about their favorite authors.
