The club sponsors American cultural events and discussion of current social issues, in addition to providing an English speaking environment for various social and cultural gatherings. Moreover, the club creates opportunities to gain experience planning events and organizing discussions for the students of LBUS.
Edible America! Tuesday evening was a chance for students to taste different foods from the United States that are not commonly made in Romania. Camille and Frank hosted at their apartment and a fine time was had by all who attended! The menu included jambalaya, jello, pumpkin cake, salsa, bagels, peanut butter, banana bread and apple pie.
Students and Americans from the Sibiu community presented on different U.S. states, giving an insight into the varied landscape of the United States! We learned about Texas, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Arizona, Michigan, Illinois, Virginia, Missouri, Oklahoma and Oregon.
Conversation Cafe—Come for an evening of good conversation and company with Sibiu’s resident Americans! This will be a relaxed evening of discussion and a time to ask any questions you may have about the United States. We will meet at 6.30 and head to Orphee Pub in Piata Mica. See you on Tuesday!
Many thanks to the twenty students who came on Tuesday night for a successful evening of cartoons and discussions! We will be talking about Easter traditions in the United States at next week’s meeting. See you then!
Yesterday evening 15 students met in Room 61 to discuss St. Patrick’s Day in the United States! They learned about the history of the holiday and Irish immigrants coming to the U.S., in addition to specific St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in cities across the U.S. Everyone also sampled Irish Soda Bread and had the opportunity to learn about its history in Ireland and the United States.

Approximately 15 students celebrated Thanksgiving at the American Culture Club by learning about the history of Thanksgiving while watching A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, in addition to “The Mayflower Voyagers” episode from This Is America, Charlie Brown.
Charles and Hannah shared their own Thanksgiving traditions and students listened to turkey calls (turkey’s aren’t very common in Romania!) and made their own hand turkeys in celebration of the holiday.
Thanks to all who attended the meeting and be sure to stop by next week for Beatnik Coffee House night!
